With policy support, prefabricated buildings are developing steadily

In 2024, the prefabricated decoration industry made significant progress in many aspects. At the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China, in conjunction with multiple ministries and commissions, issued the "Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Prefabricated Buildings (2024-2028)", clearly stating that by 2028, the proportion of prefabricated buildings in the newly built floor area should reach over 30%, and prefabricated decoration was highlighted as an important component. And specific support measures will be provided in multiple aspects such as financial subsidies, tax preferences, and technical support. ​
Subsequently, many local governments responded positively. For instance, Beijing issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Application of Prefabricated Buildings and Green Building Materials", and Shanghai released the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Prefabricated Buildings", both regarding prefabricated decoration as a key link in promoting the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry. Seven departments including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Construction of Student Dormitories in Colleges and Universities", guiding colleges and universities to build better dormitories for students through various means, including prefabricated renovation and improvement. ​
In June, Shenzhen released the "Evaluation Standard for Prefabricated Decoration", which was completed after three years of compilation. It emphasizes dry construction techniques, encourages the application of products with higher integration, promotes reversible installation technologies, and fills the technological gap. In July, the China Building Decoration Association officially released the standard "Design Standard for Prefabricated Interior Decoration of Buildings", providing professional basis for designers. ​
In terms of technological innovation, many enterprises have launched prefabricated decoration design and management platforms based on BIM technology, achieving full-chain digital management. Intelligent home systems are deeply integrated with prefabricated decoration, and new environmentally friendly materials and recyclable materials are widely applied. In November, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development held a national on-site meeting on intelligent construction in Qingdao, clearly listing intelligent construction in the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the development of the construction industry, with prefabricated construction becoming a key development target. In addition, the cooperation and integration among upstream and downstream enterprises in the prefabricated decoration industry chain have accelerated, and a complete ecosystem has initially taken shape. ​
